Measure What Matters by John Doerr

Last month we read Measure What Matters by John Doerr, which offered examples and guidance of how Objectives and Key Results (OKR) can be beneficial in the workplace.

John Doerr outlines how the model was founded and traces his success through his work at Intel and eventually sharing the model with the founders of Google. By investing in some of the world's most successful entrepreneurs and companies, including Amazon, Google, Intuit, Netscape, and Twitter, he has helped create more than 425,000 jobs. 

In the OKR model, objectives define what we seek to achieve; key results are how those top-priority goals will be attained with specific, measurable actions and within a set time frame. 

The model is beneficial from top level CEO's to professional sport coaches; it keeps everyone on track to link objectives and strengthen the organization.

Making I.T. Work From Home!

Like many of you, Bird Rock Systems moved our workforce to home and have been learning to adjust and overcome these new challenges. 

It's been difficult being separated from our team members since it has been sewn into our company culture to act as a family unit. Luckily, with the the help of our collaboration tools and company virtual happy hours, we have been able to stay connected and catch up on each other's lives. 

This image is a screenshot of our first virtual QBR, where we had a theme related to our team pivoting strategy - Operation Jaguar. The Jaguar, worshiped by the Mayans, is strong, agile and aggressively seeking opportunity. In the case of Bird Rock, it is the opportunity to help our customers, team members, or partners.  It’s easy to feel like a victim in these challenging times; for most teams but not us.

SD Food Bank

The San Diego Food Bank is continuing their efforts to provide food assistance and resources during this pandemic. Through their different food programs, they are committed to provide these to the 350,000 people they serve every month. 
OneOC

The Emergency Volunteer Center(EVC) under the coordination of OneOC matches volunteers to urgent needs based on skill, geography, and availability. Volunteers can be assigned for different projects such as Animal Services, Information and Referrals, and Recovery-Response in light of COVID-19.
UCSD Health

Support the frontliners in the fight against COVID-19! UC San Diego Health is accepting donations of Protective Equipment and Supplies. You can also send monetary donations to the Emergency Response Fund. 
Baby2Baby

Baby2Baby is a Los-Angeles based organization that provides children living in poverty with basic necessities such as diapers, formula, and food. During this pandemic, they are accepting monetary donations from the public to continue sending essentials to low-income families across the nation.
